Humanitarian Outcomes published the preview of findings from the forthcoming Aid Worker Security Report 2015.
The preview is based on data from the Aid Worker Security Database (AWSD). The AWSD is a project of Humanitarian Outcomes.
The data show that the number of attacks on aid workers have decreased in 2014 with roughly 30 percent. According to Humanitarian Outcomes the countries with the most attacks on aid workers in 2013 have had a decrease or change in operational presence of aid workers in 2014. These countries (Afghanistan, South-Sudan and Syria) were percieved as too insecure.
Other striking details from the factsheet:
- After 2013, last year had the highest number of attacks on aid workers.
- In 2014 329 aid workers were victims of 190 major attacks.
- 120 were killed, 88 wounded and 121 kidnapped.
- Kidnappings were the most common means of violence against aid workers, more than shootings.
- Afghanistan was the country with by far the greatest number of attacks on aid workers in 2014.
